Chelsea FC 3 (Cahill 54', John Terry 61', Demba Ba 89') - 1 Southampton
After going behind just fourteen seconds into play, Chelsea came back to save Jose Mourinho’s unbeaten home record and launch into second place on the league table. A terrible Essien pass led to a very early goal for the Saints and after a first half where both sides looked unlikely to score and a few substitutions, Chelsea put on a show. A glorious low header from Cahill was unstoppable; John Terry headed in a Juan Mata pass to celebrate his 400th EPL appearance; and Demba Ba slid in a cheeky late goal to seal the deal. Ramires played a spectacular game, making tackles and providing the assist for the late goal. Juan Mata showed exactly what he’s made of with two assists - just the come back everyone seemed to be waiting for.
"Mata gave us what we needed," said Mourinho post-match. He went on to extend praise to the rest of the team, saying "They must feel the responsibility to play for Chelsea and that was a sign of maturity. They were losing after 10 seconds but kept calm.”
